Hello! We’re honored you’d like to get to know us!
You have our deepest respect for considering adoption. We can imagine that it’s been a hard road for you to get here, and hope to help you in this journey however we can.
As an adoptive family, any child who comes into our home will be so loved. They will know they came from wonderful people who also love them very much, and want the best possible life for them.
If adoption is your plan and you proceed with an adoption journey, we wish that you find peace in your decision. We hope to have the opportunity to meet you and learn any preferences you have for ongoing communication. You have our full support in this decision. We are so appreciative that you are reading our profile.
About Us
We met in Chicago in 2016. Our first date was at what is now our favorite Thai restaurant. We quickly bonded over our love for early 2000s rock music, travel, the outdoors, good food and an ability to make each other laugh. After three fun-filled years, we got married in the Michigan countryside in front of our family and friends. We have two lovable dogs, Clive and Finn, and enjoy spending time together as a family.
Our Values:
- We approach life’s challenges with light hearts and lean on each other to get through the tough times.
- We believe in showing kindness and empathy to others, assuming good intentions.
- We are supportive of others, and respect ideas and interests that are different from our own.
- We love learning from and experiencing different cultures.
- We value hard work and delivering on promises.
Meet Ashley
“Ashley is kind, caring and dependable. I look forward to seeing her as a parent; she is great with children and I am certain she will make the best mom.” – Rob
I am first and foremost, a goofball. I love to make people laugh and feel special, especially Rob. I grew up in the west suburbs of Chicago and was raised by my parents. I also have an amazing older sister. I’m really close to my mom and sister, and we see each other often. My dad was one of my absolute favorite people but passed away in 2017. He was the funniest person I ever knew.
I went to DePaul University in Chicago and found my stride there, graduating with a Communications Degree. My first few jobs out of school were in broadcasting, including PBS. I currently work as a Marketing Director, specializing in websites and mobile apps.
Outside of work, I spend my time taking the dogs for walks with Rob, cooking and baking, seeing live music (rock and roll!) and hanging out with family and friends.
Meet Rob
“Rob has an amazing sense of adventure. Best of all, he is a deeply kind-hearted person. He’ll drop everything to take care of the people he loves.” – Ashley
I was born in England and grew up in a small village in the countryside with my parents and two younger brothers. My parents were always there for us and are very supportive.
I have a Master’s Degree in Engineering from Oxford University and work as a Civil Engineer. I’ve worked for the same company ever since I left university and it has given me the opportunity to travel around the U.S. and Europe.
I moved to Chicago in 2015 and met Ashley soon after. The rest is history.
My favorite way to unwind is doing something outdoors with Ashley and the dogs. I enjoy checking out local breweries and playing darts with friends. I also like woodworking and have been building a workshop in our garage.
Our Marriage
“We have a strong marriage. We have a lot in common and have similar personalities. We trust each other completely and go out of our way to make each other happy. We complement each other well. Ashley is very friendly and spontaneous whereas I am more reserved. Ashley encourages me to be more outgoing.” – Rob
“We have endured so much together and we are stronger for it. Rob isn’t one to vocalize his emotions, but we recognize when we need one another and take care of the other. We complement and challenge each other in different ways. He encourages me to push myself beyond what I imagined I could do, like taking strenuous hikes in the wilderness. He shows me what I’m capable of, and how strong I am. Ultimately, we bring out the best in each other.” – Ashley
Our Adventures
We’ve been lucky to travel the world together, from caves on remote islands in the South Pacific to America’s national parks. We love to see new places and try new foods! We often take cooking classes while on our travels.
With Rob’s family being in England, we like to visit them every other year and will often travel with them.
Why We Want to Adopt
We’ve had many adventures together, but the one we’re looking forward to most is parenthood. We can’t conceive but long to build our family, and know in our hearts that adoption is the right path for us.
We can’t wait to watch our child’s unique personality grow and develop. We look forward to seeing them discover new things and learn their likes and dislikes. We are ready to help guide them through life’s challenges, hoping to use even our most painful experiences to help them have the happiest lives possible.
We’re looking forward to the energy and unpredictability they’ll bring to our lives. Lastly, we can’t wait to see what they’ll teach us about life and ourselves. We will cherish them. We also have two wonderful cousins who were adopted that we’re close with, should our child wish to seek their advice.
Openness in Adoption
We believe in openness in adoption. Any child placed with us will know their adoption story from the beginning and we will answer any and all questions they have. We believe it’s important that children who were adopted know where they came from and will share what we know about you.
We would work with you to determine the right level of contact that’s best for all of us; we want to make sure you still feel connected to your child. We will show others in our lives that we are proud of how we built our family, celebrating you and referring to you with the utmost respect. What’s most important is that we are creating an amazing life for a child — all of us together.
Clive & Finn
Clive is our sweet, 6-year-old super mutt that we adopted a few months before our wedding. A spunky ball of energy, he loves to run and do tricks for treats. Clive is a huge fan of hiking, with the Michigan dunes being one of his favorite spots.
Finn is big hairy puppy with an even bigger personality. He’s a hilarious cuddle bug who loves spending time as a family, whether strolling the neighborhood or watching movies. He’s great with kids and a huge hit with our nephews.
Our Home
We live in the north suburbs of Chicago. Our house is over 100 years old and we were drawn to its charm. We love to garden and grow vegetables in the back yard, as well as host meals for family and friends. We are good friends with our neighbors and there are lots of other kids who live on our block. It’s a relatively short drive to the beach, where we have a little sailboat.
Family & Friends
We value spending time with our loved ones. Although Rob’s family is overseas, we regularly Skype with them to stay connected.
Our Traditions
We love to celebrate holidays with our nearest and dearest, at home and afar.
Thank You!
We are humbled that you read our profile and appreciate you taking the time to get to know us.
