IRA Distributions

Your gift invests in the long-term health and happiness of children, parents and families across Chicagoland. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to creating positive change in our community.

IRA Distributions

Giving directly through your individual retirement account (IRA) is a powerful way to maximize your support for The Cradle while reducing taxes on the assets you leave behind. If you are an IRA owner aged 70 ½ or older:

  • You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA (known as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD) directly to charities like The Cradle.
  • You pay no income tax on the distribution.
  • Your QCD can satisfy all or part your minimum required distribution, which begins when you turn 73.
  • Your gift is excluded from your adjusted gross income, which may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.

You can also name The Cradle as a beneficiary of your retirement account and direct a percentage of your remaining assets to support families after your lifetime.

How to Give From Your IRA

To initiate a charitable distribution from your IRA to The Cradle, simply contact your IRA administrator and declare your intent using this sample letter as a guide. Your administrator will also provide a beneficiary form upon your request, which you can complete using the information below.
