Hello!
We are Nick and Nik, and we appreciate you taking the time to get to know our family! We understand that this is a huge choice to make and are honored to be among the families you are considering. We support you making the choice that feels right in your heart.
We are thrilled to be growing our little clan and can’t wait for the adventures we will have with the child we adopt. We are dedicated to raising a child that is connected to their roots and stands firm in who they are.
Our Journey
We met in early 2022 and quickly knew that we had a once in a lifetime connection. We knew early on that we wanted to raise a family together, so we started working towards our goal of adoption soon after we got married in February of 2023. For us, a good time often involves staying in, cooking some delicious food and hanging out with our dog, Mateo.
We also spend a lot of time with our family in the area, including helping care for Nik’s four-year-old cousin who is in a family placement with his aunt. We are grateful to be in a place in life where we are surrounded by family and friends, enjoying a life we had always hoped we would live.
About Nik
Nik grew up in Downers Grove in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. After high school, he moved to the city, where he lived for more than 10 years. He returned to the suburbs about six years ago to be closer to his support system as he navigated getting into recovery and living a sober lifestyle.
Since choosing sobriety, Nik’s life has drastically changed for the better. He was able to finish his degrees to become a social worker, enrich his relationships with family and friends and commit to being the best partner possible to Nick, the love of his life. The past five years have been nothing short of incredible, and he’s looking forward to a lifetime of experiences with the people he loves.
About Nick
Nick grew up in a small town in Ohio. He has one brother, and both of his parents were teachers (now retired), so he learned the value of education early. He ended up getting both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Ohio State University before moving to Chicago in 2007. His interests include playing video games, reading, playing the piano and doing the crossword every day. He also loves to cook and promises he makes the best Thanksgiving turkey you’ve ever had! He also loves dogs and hopes to always have one in the family.
Our Open Adoption Commitment
We believe strongly that open adoption benefits everyone and we are committed to maintaining a connection with any members of our child’s birth family who would like to be involved in their life. We are open to visits with family members (including traveling if necessary), incorporating family traditions and sending updated and photos. We want to work with you to determine what fits best into your expectations and promise to fulfill that throughout our child’s life.
Our Transracial Adoption Commitment
We want our child to be proud of their heritage. We welcome a child of any racial or ethnic background and promise to work constantly to educate ourselves and bring our child’s culture into our lives. We have both spent a lot of time in different cultural spaces (through activism and living abroad), so we are happy to step outside our comfort zones in order to bring our child closer to their birth culture. We strive to maintain a diverse group of friends who will be in our child’s life, and we hope to continue to expand this circle as we make new friends through parenting.
Thank You
We want to thank you again for taking the time to get to know our family and to take us into consideration as you decide whether adoption is right for you.
We are thinking of you and wishing you peace as you find your path forward.
Sincerely,
