Books

  • On Your Feet Foundation Birth Parent Journal: This journal is broken up into weekly journal prompts, helping birth parents gain clarity about who they are, what they are capable of and where they are heading in life.
  • Sam’s Sister by Juliet C. Bond: Join Rosa as she navigates her mother’s grief, meets the family who will adopt her baby brother, and learns ways to cope with her own feelings of loss
  • Given in Love: For Mother’s Who are Choosing an Adoption Plan by Maureen Connelly

Illinois-Based Resources

  • New Moms: Parent education programs, job training and supportive housing
  • Well of Mercy: Communal living program that supports single mothers
  • Start Early: Birth-to-five educational home visiting program
  • Women Infant & Children (WIC): Supplemental nutrition program for pregnant and breastfeeding women and women who had a baby within the last six months, infants, and children under age 5
  • Illinois Action for Children – Cook County: Provides child care referrals and subsidies
  • Fussy Baby Network: Serving families caring for fussy babies through a free helpline

Indiana-Based Resources

  • Community HealthNet Health Centers: Providing medical care at 6 locations in Lake County, IN
  • HealthLinc: Community Health Center with locations in Northwest and Central Indiana.
  • Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky: Gynecological and reproductive health services
  • Hoosier Healthwise: Health care program for children up to age 19 and pregnant women; covers doctor visits, prescriptions, mental health care, hospitalizations and more at little or no cost
