The Cradle’s 2021 Alumni Gathering for Cradle adopted persons is coming up this month, and we are thrilled to feature the brilliant Sharon Kaplan Roszia as our guest presenter. In celebration of her contributions to adoption awareness and education, we are eager to share more about this strong voice in our community and some books to grab on your next library run.

Per Sharon:

“Sharon Kaplan Roszia M.S. entered the field of foster care and adoption in 1963 and has worked consistently in both public and private agencies as well as private practice, always focusing on child welfare issues. Along with her colleague, Deborah Silverstein L.C.S.W., she developed the Seven Core Issues in Adoption, which is referenced widely in the literature of social work and is the basis of a forty-eight-hour curriculum to train social workers and therapists on the Core Issues, trauma, and attachment. It has been taught for decades in California and is presently also taught in Canada and Texas.

Sharon has lectured extensively all over the USA as well as Canada, Australia and Israel. She has written three books (The Open Adoption Experience, Cooperative Adoption and Seven Core Issues in Adoption and Permanency), written chapters and forwards to books, written for several magazines in print and on-line, and has participated in the creation of many training videos. She has appeared regularly on both local and national television shows.

Sharon lives what she does professionally as a foster parent, adoptive parent, a parent by birth and now, inter-generationally, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”

The 2021 Cradle Alumni Gathering, featuring an interactive presentation from Sharon Kaplan Roszia, will be held on Tuesday, September 28, at 7pm CST, underwritten by Joel ('52) and Jessie Solomon.

Sharon’s presentation will offer various perspectives on the gains in adoption from several sources and will allow for attendees to share their perspectives as well. We will explore the tools of Mastery, Resilience, Forgiveness and Healing that we can use to see the self as whole, strong, connected, loveable and loving.
