Hi, we’re Heather and Ryan. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and for considering us as you make the difficult decision of who will parent your child. We are a family-oriented couple who values honesty, communication, trust, and lots of humor. We are so excited to become parents and welcome a child in to our family. We know that you want what is best for your baby. We hope that you will find us to be all that you hope for your child.
We first met and started dating in 2004 and were married in 2009. We have built our marriage on a strong foundation of love, honesty, communication, trust, and LOTS of laughter. Struggles with infertility lead us to our adoption journey, and we know in our hearts that adoption was the path that we were meant to take to grow our family.
We live in the western suburbs of Chicago in a diverse and family-friendly community. Our neighborhood is safe, has an incredible school district, is filled with lots of young families, is close to many community parks, and is near to our beautiful historic downtown with restaurants and shopping. We have two silly dogs, Alex (a yorkiepoo) and Mabel (a golden retreiver). They fill our lives with so much unconditional love and joy. Heather works in marketing for a child health advocacy organization and Ryan is an automotive insurance analyst for a large insurance company. Both of our companies are family friendly, and our work schedules allow for flexibility and lots of time together as a family.
About Heather (By Ryan)
Heather lights up a room just by being in it. She is funny, sweet, and kind. She loves to celebrate holidays, spend quality time with friends and family, cheer on other's successes, and support loved ones during times of need. She is passionate about caring for others, and I am so fortunate to build my life with her. She is a natural with kids, and her love for them comes through in every encounter. I can picture her teaching our child to bake, planning their birthday parties, coloring together, doing crafts, and showing them to love and care for others as she does. Her nurturing personality was one of the qualities that drew me to her.
Heather is a fantastic wife, daughter, sister, and friend. I know that she will be a wonderful mother. She never lost sight of our dream to build a family together, even though the most challenging days of fertility struggles. I want more than anything for her dream of becoming a mother to come true.
About Ryan (By Heather)
It is impossible to talk about Ryan without a smile on your face. He is one of the most genuine and warm people that I have ever met. He gets along with everyone that he meets. He has a fantastic sense of humor, and his laugh is contagious. There is no doubt in my mind that Ryan will be an AMAZING dad. Kids gravitate towards him. He is silly, playful, and patient. He loves to visit and explore new places. He is supportive of his loved ones and takes so much pride in their successes.
We have always wanted to build a family together, and I can't wait to see Ryan finally become a dad. I can picture him coaching their sports teams, working on homework with them, taking them to the zoo, and just thriving in all of the day to day parenting tasks. Our child will have so much fun exploring the world with Ryan as their dad.
Our Feelings About Open Adoption
It is important that we express how important you are to us. We are completely open to involving you in our lives in a way that makes you feel comfortable. Openness could include things like regular visits, exchanging emails or text messages, and/or sharing photos. If you need time, we will send updates to The Cradle until you are ready. Your child will grow up knowing they were loved by you from the very beginning. Through openness, we can help to fill your child’s life with love and a true understanding of where they came from. We look forward to talking to you about a plan for openness, whatever that might look like to all of us.
Raising a Multi-Cultural Family
We are open to welcoming a child in to our family who is from any race. Ryan’s family has welcomed 5 of his cousins in to the family through adoption from a variety of cultures. Both of our families understand and fully embrace the joys that come from expanding our family through adoption. Our families thrive on celebrating all of our unique interests, backgrounds, talents, abilities, and beliefs. We know that they will open their arms and their hearts to any child placed with us. We plan to raise our child to have pride in their culture and ethnic background. We look forward to celebrating holidays, foods, music, and traditions from your child’s culture. We also plan to expose them to a wide variety of cultures and beliefs. We will involve our child in activities like sports, music, arts, dance, and boy/girl scouts from an early age to help them meet new people, learn the meaning of community, and explore their interests.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and about how we would love to open our hearts to you and your child. We hope to get to know more about you too. We want to make a lasting plan for an open relationship that makes everyone comfortable and surrounds your child with love. We wish you comfort and peace as you make your decision. More than anything, we want you to know how committed we are to loving your child, giving them the very best life, supporting them through all of life's ups and downs, and welcoming you in to our family along with your child.
