We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to share our story with you. For the chance to become a part of your life in such a powerful way. Our goal is to show the true side of ourselves. To be honest about our strengths and about our vulnerabilities, and if something in here speaks to you, we hope we have the chance to meet you in person.

We met at a Friendsgiving, here in Chicago on November 17, 2012. Our friends had proposed setting us up prior however it never worked out. I know it sounds cliché, but there was an instant connection between us. Who isn't attracted to a woman Munirah and Sam photo 1who can cook?! Munirah made TWO types of baked macaroni and cheese (one with bacon), which needless to say, was an attention grabber. After a few “group dates” over the next month our life long story began.

We moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for Sam's job in October of 2015. While Munirah had an aunt in Miami and Sam an aunt in Palm Beach, we were really all we had while we were down there. The entire experience made us a stronger couple. We had never lived together, so we learned and adapted to each other's little quirks. Since we didn't have many friends in the beginning we became not only boy/girlfriend, we became best friends.

So in November 2016, Sam dropped to a sandy knee on the beach of Naples and proposed to Munirah. One year later, on November 17, 2017, exactly 5 years from the day we met, we were married in New Orleans in front of 120 of our closest family and friends. Our marriage began a new chapter of our relationship. We developed a stronger bond as we talked about things like financial plans, career plans and health insurance. It is all of those little things that really make us partners in this life and now we look forward to tackling parenthood as partners.

Munirah and Sam photo 2 Why we chose to adopt:

As mentioned previously, Munirah has family members who are adopted, but Sam also has a close friend who placed his child for adoption when they were in college. We have seen first hand the beautiful but difficult experience that is adoption.

At the time we were trying for children, Sam's cousin had twins via surrogate and a friend from Munirah's high school had just adopted through The Cradle. It was clear to us that there are many different ways to build a family and this seemed like the right way for us. The process has allowed us to have many meaningful conversations about our childhood, our relationship and what kind of parents we want to be.

Our view on openness:

We understand that there are many levels of openness. We envision a relationship that is a combination of emails, pictures and meeting in person. However, we recognize that we are only one third of this triad. We hope that we have the chance to speak with you about what you envision openness to look like. If you choose us as parents, please know that this child will know who you are, and the love that you have for them.

We also view openness as an opportunity for us to incorporate your traditions and culture into this child's life. Perhaps there are important recipes you would like us to try or a favorite holiday tradition you think is important; whatever it may be, we would love to hear and learn from you!

Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. If there is anything that we hope you take away, it is that we want to create a home that is filled with love, honesty, fun, exploration and security. We recognize how monumental this decision is and we pray that once you decide, you will have peace.
