Krista & Ellen

“There will always be a reason why you meet people. Either you need them to change your life or you’re the one that will change theirs.”

-Angel Flonis Harefa

We’re eager to complete our family through adoption, and promise to provide a loving, supportive, and stable home for your little one.

We cannot imagine what you are going through right now. The roller coaster of emotions must be incredibly overwhelming. Please know that we have the utmost respect for you and are humbled by your strength and courage. We wish you peace as you determine the best plan for you and your child.

Our Story

Over the past 14+ years, we have been able to help raise hundreds of children through teaching. Within the last few years, we have realized that we were both meant to be mommies and began our adoption journey. Knowing that we make such a great team and have set up our future for success, we are ready to complete our family through adoption. We are eager to turn our dream house into our dream home by bringing home a child. We will be forever grateful to you for giving us this amazing gift that we cannot create ourselves.

About Us

Although we were both Music Education majors at Illinois State University, our paths never crossed because Krista was preparing to graduate as Ellen was just starting out. Little did we know that four years later we would both end up teaching music at the same school.

From day one, we made a great team. With Krista, as Choir Director, and Ellen, as Band Director, we complimented each other perfectly from the start. Because of our close working relationship we became fast friends who had the utmost respect for one another. As we spent more time together outside of school, we quickly realized that our relationship was much more than just co-workers.

We dated for eight years before getting married in 2014. Three months later, we purchased our dream house in a far northern suburb of Chicago. We currently share our bright and cheerful ranch with our three furbabies; two dogs (Ollie and Maddie) and one cat (Duet).

About Krista (by Ellen)

Krista is one of the most amazing human beings I have ever met! Her easy-going, incredibly patient and nurturing personality is truly an inspiration. Over the past eleven years, Krista has proven to be an incredibly dedicated, responsible, loyal, and funny spouse as well as auntie, sister, daughter, and teacher to many.

Watching her interact with our nieces and nephews is absolutely amazing as she is always incredibly kind, patient, and fun with them. She makes learning fun in the classroom and at home. Whether it's telling the little ones what ingredient is next in the recipe while they cook together or role playing with their favorite toys to encourage them to do what we need them to do, Krista always makes learning fun. Through her example, our child is going to learn how to be an incredible human being while learning the importance of patience and kindness. I cannot wait to raise a child with her!

About Ellen (by Krista)

One of the things I love most about Ellen is her passion. She does everything with commitment and enthusiasm! Ellen cares about her students like they are her own children. She teaches them not only how to be good musicians, but how to be good people.

Ellen is also passionate about animals, especially our 2 dogs and cat that we rescued. She truly values community service and giving back. I know that through her example, she will teach our child the importance of supporting a worthy cause. Ellen is also passionate about being an aunt! She is a wonderful aunt to our 6 nieces and nephews, who all lovingly call her "Auntie E." She loves making memories with them, and is especially amazing when playing with them. A big kid herself, she is completely happy playing games, doing puzzles, coloring, and working on letters and numbers. It's in these moments that I can see what an amazing mom she is going to be.

We were drawn to The Cradle because of their child-centered approach, focus on education, and commitment to open adoption.  As teachers, we firmly understand the importance of open communication within the circle of people in a child's life.  We hope to find the perfect balance of openness and contact that best meets your needs. We are open to exchanging e-mails, text messages, and phone calls as well as visits. We will tell your child their story starting from day one and promise to respect your wishes in regards to the information shared with them, how active of a role you play in their life, and always have you determine the level of openness and contact.  We understand that the level of connection between all of us may change, but the door will always be open.

Parenting & Diversity

Through consistency, structure, high expectations, and healthy habits, we will provide a very stable, fun, and loving environment. We will encourage our child to be the authentic him/herself while instilling the morals and values that will lead them to being the best human being that s/he can be. Our goals for our child are to be: emotionally healthy, authentic, culturally aware, open-minded, and appreciative of diversity while having fun and creating happy memories. We are ready and willing to do whatever we need to in order to honor our child's culture while instilling a healthy cultural identity.

Thank You

Thank you so much for taking the time to consider us as possible parents for your baby. We hope that you will give us the opportunity to meet with you in person so that we can learn more about each other. We wish you strength and courage as you make this decision for you and your child.
